Sweet Cebu..here's what I miss about you.

Just minutes into the US of A and I am already noticing how different it is. It is not a bad thing, but I can definitely tell that I am acclimated to living in sweet ole Cebu. Just an example for you: parking at the airport cost $6.00! That is 300 pesos for one parking job? We do not utilize valet parking, but that would be two valet parking passes or 15 parking passes to go to the grocery store at Ayala mall. For those of you that don't know this, in the Philippines you basically go to the mall for everything. It is not just a place to shop like here in the states. Most people use public transportation so they need a one stop shop, though it makes malls in Asia SO BIG.

Okay, I will stop rambling and get on to the top ten things I miss about Cebu.

1. Our staff and friends that we work with in the community we work in. We have really built solid relationships over the last year and the people we work with make things so entertaining. There are so many people who have a heart to serve and protect children.

2. Our Citichurch family! God blessed us with an incredible local church to be a part of. We have gotten involved in ministry, a precious life group and have even been supported by them in MANY ways. I have actually heard countless stories of how missionaries miss this aspect when they are on the field and to know that I have that, I am so blessed.

3. Our other expat friends. I say expats because this group consists of missionaries, other individuals who are students or who work in Cebu. We have loved every minute of meeting other people from other countries and there are so many of them that have become family.

4.The tropics. I miss the beautiful skies and trees and mountains. The Philippines is such a beautiful place to live.

5. BLOOM. Bloom is a ministry in Cebu that was originally started in Cambodia. They are a training center for women. It has been a blessing to support this ministry over the last year. We have been able to be a part of their devotion time, enjoyed Zumba with them and attended their graduation ceremony where Bec had the opportunity to photograph. It is a blessing that so many organizations really work together to bring Kingdom change. PLUS they have the best coffee and cupcakes!

6. Believe it or not, I miss the food! Last night our first meal was Taco Bell because it was the only thing open and close so late at night but it made me miss Red Lizard SO bad.

7. The language. I miss being able to practice Cebuano with people. So friends, send me messages in the dialect so I can keep practicing.

8. My room. It is my hiding place. It is where the best ME time takes place. It is where I drink coffee and listen to the birds chirp...errrr wait, roosters crow. LOL It is where Jesus and I have the best convos.

9. I also miss the time I will have to read. In the Philippines waiting is a norm. I take a book with me everywhere I go.

10. Last but not least, I will miss the game nights, worship nights and dinners at our house with some of the coolest people on earth.

**As a side note, I am sure many of you are confused that I did not share how much I will miss celebrating Christmas for six months, but the reality is I brought that with me....MAAYONG PASKO!

Until December sweet Cebu!
Hillary
